Fun Saint Stories

One of my ongoing SCA projects is to bring fun, interesting saint stories to a wider audience. While I know religion can be a touchy subject, I’m tired of hearing Celtic, Norse, Greek, Arabic, and Indian mythologies without any Christian stories. So here are some. Unless otherwise noted, all the stories below come from The Golden Legend, a very popular 13th century book of saints’ lives by Jacobus de Voraigne. All text is courtesy of the William Granger Ryan translation, copyright 1993. (Links for Volume I and Volume II on Amazon.) I’ve already got some of these worked up as performances, and I’m hoping to have them up on YouTube soon. For the rest, you’ll just have to settle for the originals until I can get my act together.

As an aside, if you are a bard, dear reader, please feel free to steal any of these stories that you like. Nothing would make me happier than to see more fun Christian stories being told around bardic circles! Use them with my blessing and the blessing of St. Genesius, patron saint of performers!
