before breakfast — Marauders

Had a lovely time last night doing bardic with Lorelei and Maraha, who joined us shortly after Lorelei got back. We did a bunch of singing at Your Inner Vagabond, and then trundled on down the hill to Eoforwic. Eoforwic was quiet, but there were a few people there that we could bard at. Lorelei and I did a bunch of songs; Maraha did a story or two. They were making cheesecake in the Dutch oven for Emer’s CD release tonight. I really hope I get a piece of it.

Got back to camp to find a garbage back on my seat full of dry clothes and a drying rack leaning against my tent. I love you, Droen!

Bee sting update: no more swolen than last night, though the pinkness has spread slightly. No hives. The only breathing problems I’ve been having are, I suspect, from asthma. So it’ll probably get better… eventually.

I love, love, love my new shoes. Walking in the dew to the portos: dry, clean feet. Walking through the mud back to camp: dry, clean feet. I love these shoes!

Lots of stuff on the schedule today: possibly fabric shopping with John, a bunch of classes that look interesting, Liam and Alethea coming in, and then a ton of stuff tonight. Well, at least three: the EK teaching circle, the Aethelmearc filk circle, and Emer’s CD release. Whew! Now that feels like a real Pennsic schedule!

But now for breakfast.

after breakfast — same place

I’m concerned about my foot again. I’m worried that the pinkness is spreading. I actually outlined it in pen, just so I can compare later when I check it again. If it is in fact spreading, then I’ll go back to Chiurgeon’s after my Troll shift at 10:00. (I have a Troll shift at 10:00. Did I forget to mention that before?)

Liam and Alethea are actually here already. Yay! They got in at 3 a.m. Liam is awake, Alethea is not, and I’m not going to be the one to wake her. But it makes me happy to know they’re here.

early afternoon — Marauders

Worked my Troll shift this morning. It was much more fast-paced than Tuesday, but still a lot of fun. Oddly, checked in a bunch of people from Maryland. Stayed an extra half-hour because it looked like they needed me.

When I got back to camp, I realized the swelling had, in fact, expanded, so I had Lorelei escort me to Chirugeons’. Again. Saw the EMS physician who said it still looks like it’s just a local reaction. His treatment plan: take Benadryl for 48 hours, ice it, and keep it dry and clean. If the swelling expands towards my ankle (just a little is okay), if it feels like there’s a bubble, or if I get a rash anywhere else, it’s serious and come back.

So here I am, back in camp, icing my foot. This is gonna put a definite cramp in my Pennsic style, because right now I can’t walk fast or long. Hopefully it gets better soon. Because, like I said, I’ve got lots of stuff to do today.

The Pennsic Independent started today. Yay, PI.

The PI announced that several people have gone to the ER because insects crawled into their ears while they were sleeping, and to put cotton balls or something in your ears at night. And, much as I’m sure it would be a pretty horrid thing to have a bug crawl into your ear, I don’t think I’ll wear cotton balls to sleep. Hopefully it’s a decision that won’t come back to bite me. [Editor’s note: It didn’t, though I later found out that one of the people taken to the ER was a friend of mine.]

mid-afternoon — Marauders

In camp. Had lunch. Sleepy now. Think the Benadryl is kicking in. Got a half-hour until Grim’s class. Though about heading to High Rafters, but now I think I’ll just stay here until it starts. I hope I’m not this drowsy for the next two days.

late afternoon — Marauders

Went to Grim’s class, “Norse Poetry Overview,” not so much because I was interested in Norse poetry (though it is interesting) but because I wanted to see Grim. Fiana showed up, too, so I got to see her also. Huzzah!

Grim and I went off to Dione Sidhe to say hi after the class (my other option was going to an interesting-sounding class on the Menagere du Paris). Sang “No Longer Seventeen” to them and they fed me chocolate. I like this arrangement.

Liam is running late on his Your Inner Vagabond meetup and it might not actually happen. I’ve got about an hour until dinner and probably won’t do anything much until then, given that I can’t was fast or long on my foot. I’ve been keeping track of it, and it looks like it’s at least not getting worse anymore. Hopefully “not worse” will soon turn itself into “better.” I’ll keep taking the Benadryl, even if it makes me groggy, if it makes my foot better.

I’ve got a conundrum about what to do tonight: Aethelmearc filk or Emer’s CD release party. I’ll probably go to the former for the early part of the evening and then roll down the hill to Emer’s. (Though if I miss cheesecake, I will be sad.) I’m just gonna discount the EK teaching circle on the theory that it’ll probably be the same stuff from last year.

It occurs to me that I could have gotten a lot done this War if I’d had some sort of embroidery or sewing project I wanted to do all those times I’ve just been sitting here. Ah, well.

after dinner — Marauders

A moment of awkwardness averted: When I saw Liam’s LJ list of places he was planning to be, one of the things was a get-together at Your Inner Vagabond at 5:00. So I followed him over. I began to say my hellos when I realized it was a group meeting for a group I wasn’t part of. Just as I was informed of this, Grim (who I had invited) walked up. I pulled him aside and told him the same thing, and we decided to just go inside and have beverages together. It was lots of fun, actually. I recited “Clash of Three Armies” to Grim, and he shared a poem he wrote about last year’s fencing woods battle, which was quite impressive.

We got back to camp (well, I did; Grim went off to another dinner) around 6:30, and dinner was just being put out. I didn’t miss dinner. Yay! On the menu tonight: meatloaf.

I’m finding it highly amusing that there are people out there who don’t know me by any name other than “Pocket Bard.” Too funny.

Got changed, battened down my tent, and now I’m just waiting for filk night to start. So that’s that.

o’dark — food court

More things that annoy me at Pennsic: children with the sneakers that light up when you walk.

The sneakers that light up when you walk are annoying, full stop.

Nota bene – if you refer to “meatloaf” as terrine maison – it sounds much nicer. Fournée would probably make it hot and just out of the oven….?
