Pennsic 2010 Diary: Tuesday, August 3

morning — Marauders

I have showered and breakfasted, and while I haven’t had quite enough sleep, I’m feeling much refreshed. I accidentally woke up even more ungodly early than I’d planned, since my alarm clock was apparently 15 minutes fast. It’s amazing how much of a difference 15 minutes makes before sunrise. That said, it’s cloudy out, so my tent was cool enough to allow me an extra half-hour of dozing (“sleep” is too strong a word) after breakfast was ready.

I was hearing the pitter-patter of raindrops on my tent roof for a minute there, but now it’s stopped. Let’s hope it stays stopped.

Now to put on a nice, clean tunic and feel decadent.

afternoon — Marauders

It’s been a day of wandering. East Kingdom Royal didn’t need me this morning, so I went window-shopping with Ernst and Alexandra (a newcomer; this is her third event). We met some cool merchants, though Erwillian seems not to be in yet. From there, it was off on a very productive wander through the Bog. No one was around at Eoforwic or Enchanted Ground, though Unnr and Charles’ tent is up and I’ve been told they brought their son. I met Shauna of Shauna’s Camp (where Grim will be staying). She greeted me with “Hi! Come on in and have some food!” This is a wonderful way to make friends with me. Incidentally, Shauna has perhaps the most decadent tent I’ve ever seen, with the possible exception of Bardicci during the hoity toity party. It’s seriously impressive. [Editor’s note: You can check out a picture of it to see that I speak the truth!]

Ajax was home too, but going off into town to buy a goat. He wants to roast it tomorrow. Why? Why not!

I got to hang out with Seamus of Casa Bardicci for a while; ran into Marian, Pierro, and Vincenzo at Harpwood Hall; and established that Toki will not be camping with Norseland. None of the Quebecois were around as I came up the hill, but Dirk of Howling Mouse was, so I said hi to him. I also discovered where Concordia is, though no one was around for me to say hi to.

At this point, it was around 2, so I grabbed John and got lunch. He very kindly paid for mine. Thanks, John! Now I’ve got an hour and a half or so until my Troll shift, and I’m sure I’ll figure out something to do with it.

late afternoon — Troll

After writing last, I decided I was craving apple dumplings, so I bought one. From there, I had a mostly-fruitless wander to Dione Sidhe and Concordia, neither of which had anyone around. So I went to High Rafters. Morgana and Maraha were playing a game of Thud. I provided unnecessary colour commentary. Look at me: I’m hepping! [Editor’s note: “Hepping” is what happens when cats or small children try to help you, and everything takes four times as long.] Morgana’s kind-but-firm advice was that I should never attend a chess tournament.

I left for Troll just as the game ended. (Maraha won.) I’m here now, but at the end of the row and it’s quiet, so I haven’t actually helped anyone yet. I’m sure I will, though. The shift is young.

before dinner — Marauders

Troll was fun. Mostly quiet, but there were a few mini-rushes. I got to chat with people, meet a new person from Concordia, and eat part of a Krispy Kreme donut. I also got to train my two replacements. There was a brief moment of complication as someone’s last name was misspelled on their confirmation, but otherwise things were very smooth. I don’t think I checked in a single minor, though.

After, I stopped by Concordia to find Toki, who checked in this afternoon. I got back to camp about five minutes ago. And just in time, too: the heavens just opened for real. It had drizzled a touch sporadically today, but we just had a hard 45 seconds of rain and it’s still going slowly.

Now it’s time for dinner. Yay!
