Pennsic 2012 Diary: Friday, August 10

7:45 a.m. – Econolodge

Didn’t sleep well at all. I was up every hour and a half or so. The noises were all wrong, and the blinds meant that I didn’t get the slow brightening that I get in my tent. Woke up at 7:00 super-tired. This is definitely gonna be a caffeine-fuelled day.

12:50 p.m. – service station near Mallorytown, ON

This morning’s drive was thankfully uneventful. Even the border was pretty tame: I lost 20 minutes, but the line in the opposite direction was much longer. New, previously-unheard question from the border guard: “Is anything in the vehicle contaminated with soil?” Me: “Erm… I was camping. So… potentially?” Thankfully, that answer didn’t seem to incur any extra paperwork, so all’s well.

I think I prefer driving home alone. I can daydream, listen to my CDs (about 8 of 16 listened to so far), and play the same song over and over again while singing along at the top of my lungs if I want. (For the record: “Battle Round” by the Whiskey Bards.)

I think I’ll save my post-Pennsic brain dump until I have a proper computer and keyboard. I may forget a few details, but I’ll be able to write more because I type much faster than I write longhand and my hand is already cramping. So, two hours until Montreal, starting… now!

It was a strange Pennsic in many ways (leaving early, but then returning), yet wonderful in just as many ways. I did more bardic then ever before – even though I missed Marauders & Beowulf & Northshield. If I’m there next year, I’ll do yet more. I thorouhly enjoy your views of Pennsic. Thanks for posting them!
